놀이터 is a participatory media artwork. It features a co-designed sculpture, interactive projection mapping and public participation. This work is designed for Korea audiences - it is in Hangul (Korean script). The central sculpture spells the word 놀이터 meaning playground.
놀이터 was exhibited at the Asia Culture Centre (South Korea, October-November 2017) as a part of the ACT Festival.
We invited audiences to collect hidden sculptural pieces and to take photos of their city environment. The public uploaded their photos to an online platform.
When the pubic arrived at the exhibition area they connected their small sculptural piece onto the 놀이터 sculpture. All photos that were uploaded by the public were automatically animated in real time and projected onto the sculpture.
We designed five different small sculptural pieces. Each piece spells a different word: the words translate to EVERYONE; ART; LANGUAGE; TIME; GOOD FORTUNE.
In effect audiences engaged in a treasure hunt and worked alongside others (EVERYONE) to play with ART, LANGUAGE and with TIME. We created an art playground for audiences to play within.
Through 놀이터 we seek to socially and physically engage audiences and personalise their experience of art and technology.
